The life path number comes from adding the digits of a birth date until one digit is left. In the usual method the month, day and year are each reduced first, then added and reduced again, stopping early at the master numbers 11, 22 and 33; the other method adds all eight digits at once. The two can disagree: 22 May 1950 gives 33 one way and 6 the other.

The default, 20 May 1990, reduces to 5 (May) + 2 (20 → 2) + 1 (1990 → 19 → 10 → 1) = 8. Each number is shown with the keywords numerology books traditionally attach to it.

Numerology is a tradition and entertainment. There is no scientific evidence that a number taken from a birth date describes personality or predicts events.

### How do you calculate your life path number?

Reduce the month, day and year of birth to single digits, add them, and reduce the total the same way. For 20 May 1990: May is 5, the day 20 gives 2 + 0 = 2, and 1990 gives 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1. The total 5 + 2 + 1 = 8 is the life path number. Stop early if you reach 11, 22 or 33.

### What are master numbers in numerology?

11, 22 and 33, the repeated-digit numbers that numerologists leave unreduced. With the usual method they can appear in the month (November is 11), the day (the 11th, 22nd and 29th, since 2 + 9 = 11) or the final total. 29 November 1987 gives 11 + 11 + 7 = 29, and 2 + 9 = 11, so the life path is 11 rather than 2.

### Why do calculators give different life path numbers for the same date?

They reduce the date in different orders. Reducing month, day and year separately keeps any master number inside a part, while adding all eight digits at once does not. For 22 May 1950 the first gives 5 + 22 + 6 = 33 and the second gives 1 + 9 + 5 + 0 + 0 + 5 + 2 + 2 = 24, then 6. Choose the method your source uses.

### Does the life path number predict anything?

No. Numerology is a tradition with no scientific evidence that birth-date numbers are linked to personality, relationships or events. The keywords shown, such as 8 for ambition and authority, are the meanings numerology books assign, not findings. Use the result as entertainment, in the same way as a horoscope.

### How accurate is the life path number calculator?

Accuracy depends on your inputs and the method's assumptions. Decimal arithmetic uses 50 significant digits, but estimates, numerical methods and source data can be less precise; the displayed rounding does not remove those limits. It is checked against 5 worked examples whose answers come from independent sources; for example, “20 May 1990” is checked against By hand: month 5; day 20 → 2; year 1990 → 19 → 10 → 1; 5 + 2 + 1 = 8 (Python check agrees).
