Ounces to pounds converter

An ounce reading from a scale measures mass. It is suitable for an ingredient or parcel measured by weight, but a fluid-ounce mark on a bottle measures volume. You cannot exchange those two quantities without information about the substance's density.

One ounce is exactly 0.0625 pounds. The avoirdupois ounce is 1/16 of a pound, exactly 28.349523125 g.

Multiply the number of ounces by 0.0625. For example, 16 oz × 0.0625 = 1 lb. To go the other way, divide by 0.0625.

Multiply by 0.062. That is 0.8% low of the exact factor 0.0625, so 16 oz comes out as 0.992 lb instead of 1.

Accuracy depends on your inputs and the method's assumptions. Decimal arithmetic uses 50 significant digits, but estimates, numerical methods and source data can be less precise; the displayed rounding does not remove those limits. It is checked against 3 worked examples whose answers come from independent sources; for example, “16 oz to lb” is checked against Exact-fraction computation from the legal unit definitions (scripts/gen-pairs.py, Python fractions).
